The New York Times released Connections in June 2023 following the success of Wordle—a word-based game created by software engineer Josh Wardle that the Times bought in 2022 and is now played by millions.
The answers for Saturday’s Connections puzzle will be revealed at the end of this article, so please proceed with caution if you want to work them out yourself.
How to Play Connections
The rules of play are simple: Every day, Connections players are given a set of 16 words they must put into four distinct categories. For example, in Friday’s puzzle, one of the categories was “Things received in the mail,” and the words connected with that category were “bill,” “card,” “catalog,” and “letter.”
In the past, categories have ranged from car rental companies to dumbbell exercises and more.
Each of the four categories is labeled with a color depending on its difficulty—yellow is considered to be the easiest, followed by green, blue and then the hardest category, purple.
The players select four words on the screen they believe are associated with one another. If they’re the right ones, they light up with the difficulty color and are removed from the board. If they are incorrect guesses, they will appear gray in color. If you encounter this, you’re able to shuffle the words for a fresh start if you’d like.
There is no time limit for the game. However, if after four tries the player does not answer the puzzle correctly, the game ends and the answers are revealed.
