The Los Angeles Chargers will enter the 2024 season ready to get themselves back to the playoffs. After a down year in 2023, Los Angeles brought in former NCAA champion Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh to right the ship.
He has brought massive amounts of energy to the organization and for the first time in what feels like forever, the Chargers have some life. Harbaugh’s personality is infectious and his teams are always ready to play when they step onto the field.
The Chargers have some star players on the roster that Harbaugh inherited, including defensive edge rusher Joey Bosa. While Bosa has dealt with multiple injuries over the last few seasons, he is looking forward to proving he can stay on the field this year.
Bosa also is looking to show people that this version of the Chargers is seen as a serious team. Far too often over the years, Los Angeles looked like a good team but crumbled under the pressure of the postseason.
“I just want to go out there and finally put together one of those seasons as a team that’s like we’re serious,” Bosa said Thursday, in an interview with Omar Navarro of Chargers.com. “We’ve had some good years, but I just feel like we have left a lot out there over the years.”
If the Bolts can get Bosa to stay healthy, it would go a long way toward their overall success. When healthy, Bosa is one of the better pass rushers around the NFL.
Over nine games last season, Bosa posted 20 total tackles and 6.5 sacks. He explained his optimism for the Chargers as the season opener approaches.
“I’m just excited, I can’t really pick one thing that I’m optimistic about,” Bosa said. “I just feel like we’re playing with a lot of energy, and you saw that last weekend with the backups in there. I think that trickles up to everybody on the whole defense and whole team. I’m just excited, what I’m most optimistic about is seeing if what we feel is real and putting it to the test.”
Los Angeles’s defense could be one of the better units in the NFL, but the offense could be a work in progress. Even with quarterback Justin Herbert, the Bolts’ wide receivers may need some time to learn.
The wide receiver room is fairly inexperienced entering the new year but the Chargers are hoping for strong progress as the season goes on. Getting off to a good start will be key for this team, especially playing in the loaded AFC Conference.
