Prince William and Prince Harry haven’t been on speaking terms for years, but on Wednesday, the brothers were spotted in the same room for the first time since the May 2023 coronation of their father, King Charles III. According to The Sun, Harry and William both made an appearance at the funeral of their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, which was held at St. Mary’s Church in Snettisham, Norfolk.
One source told the tabloid they were “very happy to confirm both princes were there,” while another said they both “arrived very discreetly.” A third source poured water on any hopes of a detente between the brothers, whose discord was a major focus of Spare, Harry’s 2023 memoir. “William and Harry were both there,” said the source, “but we never saw them speak to each other and they were keeping their distance.”
Last month, People reported that Harry’s recent texts, letters, and phone calls to William are ignored. A royal insider told the magazine that the rift between the brothers is “very bad” but not “irreparable.” Harry’s upcoming trip to New York City in September will coincide with a summit in the city hosted by William’s Earthshot Prize, but William is reportedly not planning to make the trip stateside to attend.
Lord Fellows, who died at the age of 82 on July 29, was married to Baroness Jane Fellowes, the older sister of Princess Diana. He also served as a private secretary to Queen Elizabeth II from 1990 to 1999. The princes’ uncle, Charles Spencer, commented on the death in a social media post. “My absolutely exceptional brother-in-law, Robert, is no longer with us,” he wrote. “A total gentleman—in all the best meanings of that word—he was a man of humor, wisdom & utter integrity. I’m deeply proud to have been his brother-in-law.”
