Miami Dolphins wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will begin the 2024 campaign on the physically unable to perform list, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The #Dolphins will start Odell Beckham Jr on PUP, per me and @TomPelissero.
When Miami signed him in May, they were aware this was possibility, due to an offseason procedure he had. OBJ has worked hard, but MIA felt the best path was to ease him in. It’s a long-term decision. pic.twitter.com/YiROpHqnjX

Beckham signed with the Dolphins in May, but has yet to practice as he deals with an unspecified injury. The Dolphins were aware that Beckham might miss time after undergoing a procedure in the offseason, and he will now be unavailable for the first four games of the season.
The 31-year-old is on his fourth NFL team over the last four years, having spent the 2023 season with the Baltimore Ravens, where he caught 35 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns.
Formerly one of the NFL‘s best receivers, Beckham has not been the same player since he tore his ACL twice. Beckham tore his ACL during the 2020 season with the Cleveland Browns, and tore it again while helping the Los Angeles Rams to a Super Bowl LVI victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022.
The second ACL tear resulted in Beckham missing the entirety of the 2022 NFL season as he recovered from the injury. He regularly made jaw-dropping catches, jumping up over defensive backs to haul in crazy contested catches. No catch of his remains more famous than his arched-back touchdown catch against the Dallas Cowboys his rookie year.
Six years ago today, Odell Beckham Jr. had one of the best catches in NFL history.
He has signed a $95M extension and a potential $50M shoe deal since, but it’s impossible to determine the true financial impact that catch had on his career.pic.twitter.com/anVx5iCqOk

Before his knee injuries, Beckham recorded over 1,000 receiving yards in five of his first six NFL seasons, with over 1,300 yards in each of his first three NFL seasons.
Even with Beckham out, the Dolphins offense should not miss a beat. The Dolphins finished the 2023 season with the No. 1 offense in total yards and passing yards per game, averaging 401.3 yards per game. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill led the NFL in receiving yards, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led the NFL in passing yards, and running back Raheem Mostert led the league in rushing touchdowns.

Miami boasts one of the speediest offenses in the NFL, setting up for explosive plays and opportunities every week. Wide receivers Hill and Jaylen Waddle are one of the fastest receiving duos in the league. Hill ran a 4.29 40-yard dash while Waddle recorded a 4.37 40-yard dash coming out of college, and the duo are capable of burning past defensive backs on nearly any play.
Along with their receivers, the Dolphins hold two speedy backs in De’Von Achane and Mostert. Mostert has reached over 20 miles per hour on a carry multiple times in his career. Achane also reached over 20 miles per hour a season ago, and averaged 7.8 yards per carry in large part because of his explosive speed.
The Dolphins will welcome Beckham back from injury once he’s ready, but they should be just fine in the meantime.
