A California woman was thrown in jail on Wednesday after she was caught on video screaming and throwing punches at a Los Angeles County firefighter before crashing into an undercover cop car.
Jessica Chavez, 36, was seen yelling at a member of the Los Angeles County Fire Department through the window of his truck during an altercation on the side of the road in Gardena Wednesday afternoon, ABC7 reported.
The firefighter can be heard saying “we’re with the fire department, but we called the police,” which prompted Chavez to start smacking the vehicle and even throwing punches at the firefighter through the open window, the footage showed.
The bizarre confrontation supposedly started when the firefighter saw Chavez fighting with an unidentified man and went over to help her, according to the Gardena Police Department.
“She hitting… the windows of the car, and then they were continuing it. And then I hear the officer saying ‘Oh we’re trying to help you,’ this and that, and, you know, ‘you’re making it worse,’” said witness Frank Rojas, who filmed the incident on his cell phone.
When Chavez finally walked back to her own car – which was blocking traffic – the firefighter followed her and told her they were calling 911, ABC7 said.
Chavez then got back into her car and circled the block before roaring back down the street and slamming into both the fire vehicle and an undercover cop car.
No one was injured in the crash, but one of the fire vehicle’s tires was torn off in the wreck.
“I thought when she was going to drive off, she was going to drive off and that was that. Maybe a police chase or something would ensue after that, but no, I was shocked at the fact she decided to even go back and, like, still hit the car,” Rojas said.
Chavez was subsequently arrested on charges of assault on a firefighter, assault with a deadly weapon and driving under the influence, ABC7 said.
The Gardena Police Department did not respond to The Post’s request for more details on the incident.
