The Daily Show is in Chicago for the opening night of the Democratic National Convention.
Michael Kosta kicked off the show at the Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture by highlighting Vice President Kamala Harris’ policy plans for the next four days.
He pointed out that Tuesday’s theme is “A Bold Vision for America’s Future”, while Thursday’s theme is “For Our Future”.
“How do you have themes that are so vague and then still run out of ideas by Thursday. This is like when The Fast and The Furious movies ran out of different ways to say that the movies would be fast and furious,” he joked.
“2 Fast 2 Furious, Faster and More Furiouser and Fastestest and Furiousestestest,” he added, some of which are real and some are not. “We get it, the car goes vroom.”
The DNC is expected to be filled with celebrities with the likes of Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Mindy Kaling and Ana Navarro in attendance.
But news channels were repeating online rumors that a certain pair of popstars might turn up.
“Did you hear that, a completely unsubstantiated rumor about Taylor Swift and Beyonce? In the meantime, give it up for Ana Navarro and Tony Goldwyn. Why are our news reporters talking out of their ass like that? It feels like hosting a birthday when you’re 13 and being like ‘My cousin says he knows Tony Hawk, so he might show up’,” he added.
Elsewhere on the show, Grace Kuhlenschmidt talked about reproductive health (“This week is all about genitals”) and Jordan Klepper helps Tim Walz pander to the locals after berating Republican VP candidate JD Vance for potentially not knowing what a Runza is. “I’m going deep on the issues, like this town’s delicious and far superior pizza,” Klepper told Kosta.
Later in the week, Desi Lydic is hosting on Tuesday with Klepper hosting on Wednesday followed by Jon Stewart hosting live on Thursday following the closing night of the event.
