It’s official: Eugene Levy and Dan Levy have closed deals to host the 76th Emmy Awards Sept. 15 on ABC. As Deadline reported last week, the Levys, who in 2020 became the first father-son duo to win Emmys in the same year, will now be the first father-son team to host the awards show.
Eugene and Dan Levy reflected on their Emmys for Schitt’s Creek, whose final season set a comedy series record for most wins in a single year, nine, at the pandemic-impacted 2020 Emmy Awards on ABC.
“For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough,” they said. “We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all on Sept. 15.”
The 76th Emmy Awards will air live coast to coast from the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles on ABC and stream next day on Hulu.
“Eugene’s and Dan’s comedic intuition and uncanny ability to capture the hearts of viewers will make for a memorable Emmys telecast honoring this year’s best and brightest,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group.
Eugene Levy and Dan Levy have done memorable stints presenting at awards shows together, most notably at the 2020 SAG Awards where they kicked off the ceremony with an opening monologue (you can watch it below) before presenting the night’s first and final awards.
“We are thrilled to welcome two generations of comedy genius to the Emmy’s stage as hosts,” said Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego. “Eugene and Dan Levy are known for creating unforgettable laugh-out-loud moments on screen, and together, they are super-charged. I cannot wait for Emmy fans to see what they have in store for all of us.”
In 2020, both Levys earned acting nods, for Lead Actor (Eugene) and Supporting Actor (Dan), and both also shared in Schitt’s Creek’s Outstanding Comedy Series victory. Additionally, Dan Levy won for writing (solo) and directing (shared), bringing his Emmy haul to a record-tying four.
Jesse Collins Entertainment’s Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay return as executive producers and have reassembled the production team from last year’s Emmy telecast. That includes Alex Rudzinski as director, Brittany Brazil as co-executive producer, Taryn Hurd as producer, Brian Stonestreet as production designer, Jon Macks as head writer, Noah Mitz as lighting designer and Drew Findley as screens producer. Rickey Minor will serve as music director for the sixth time. Joining the team this year is Eric Cook as co-executive producer.
