The Dallas Cowboys are always in the news for some reason or another. But recently, they have been in the headlines for comments made by owner Jerry Jones about star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

Jones recently provided an update about a potential extension with the star wide receiver and reiterated that there was no urgency to get it done. Lamb responded to this news by simply commenting “lol.” on a social media post about the situation.
This led to speculation about whether the Cowboys would have to trade Lamb if they weren’t going to give him the contract he wanted. But now Jones has seemed to backtrack his comments about Lamb, telling the wide receiver that he is missed.
“No one appreciates CeeDee being on the field more than I do,” he said in comments during an appearance on Countdown to Kickoff (relayed by Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports) on Sunday. “… No, there’s not that urgency. Now, I understand completely that angst that’s happening when you’re anxious about it and someone says anything about whether you’re missed or not. Well, CeeDee, you’re missed.”
Lamb unfollowed the Cowboys on social media, fueling more speculation about a potential trade. But these new comments from Jones seem to indicate that he understands the error that he may have previously made.

This news regarding Lamb also comes around the same time that Dallas has dealt with contract negotiations about quarterback Dak Prescott. There have been thought that 2024 could be the final year in Dallas for Prescott due to the way the Cowboys have handled things.
Jones has been known to be a stubborn owner over the years so this may be another example of that. However, this new era of players holds much more power than in the past so the Cowboys will need to tread carefully.
If Lamb were to decide to sit out until a new contract is reached, it would be massively hurtful to the Cowboys’ chances this season. The hope is that the two sides can come to a consensus soon on a new deal.
Lamb is one of the better wide receivers in football so it’s likely in the best interest of Dallas to resolve this quickly.
