Far-left Rep. Jamaal Bowman hailed Vice President Kamala Harris’ decision to add Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to the Democratic ticket — declaring in an enthusiastic video that their victory would give Americans “real freedom.”
Bowman (D-NY) uploaded the gushing video as he was leaving Harris’ campaign rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, when she introduced Walz as her running mate just a few hours after announcing the surprising pick.
Just leaving the Harris Walz rally! We’re bringing JOY back into politics! This is all about centering education, working people, real freedom and love. Let’s keep it going! pic.twitter.com/gEG3uHuVXz

“It was incredible! Inspiring, uplifting, we’re bringing joy back into politics,” Bowman raved in the video shared on X.
“We’re talking about real freedom: freedom from gun violence, freedom for a woman to choose what the hell she wants to do with her body, we’re taking America back for the people!” he continued.
An enthusiastic “Yes!” could be heard agreeing with him off-camera as he made his way through the crowd.
The congressman celebrated Walz, whose progressive pedigree as governor of Minnesota has delighted other members of the left-wing “Squad.”
“Our North Star state Governor has signed universal school meals, paid family and sick leave, marijuana legalization, and protections for reproductive rights into law,” Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) wrote on X.
But Walz drew ire from conservatives like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who slammed the pairing as the “most left-wing ticket in American history.’’
DeSantis accused the former high school teacher of letting “Minnesota burn” during the peak of the Black Lives Matter protests in response to the killing of George Floyd in 2020.
Walz has also attracted criticism from the right over his efforts to turn Minnesota into a sanctuary state, which would limit local law enforcement’s cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
Even so, his name did not carry much weight outside his home state: A poll from NPR, PBS and Marist released Tuesday found that 71% of US adults have no idea who he is or are not sure how to rate him.
As of Wednesday morning, it was unclear if Walz would face off in a debate against Donald Trump’s VP pick, bestselling author-turned-politician JD Vance.
