Actors Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have joined the roster of Los Angeles-based celebrities who have fallen victim to home invasion and robbery.
According to TMZ, who posted the story on Monday, August 5, law enforcement officials said the incident happened a few weeks ago when thieves attempted to break into the two-time Oscar winner’s guest house on their Pacific Palisades property. Robbers smashed the glass to get in during broad daylight, and although the security system triggered an alarm after the glass was hit, it didn’t stop the burglars from gaining access to the property.
Later in the article, police stated that neither Hanks, 68, nor Wilson, 67, were home during the incident, it remains unclear what, if anything, was stolen, and the couple will need to further inventory belongings to identify any missing items and their worth. The active investigation has yet to announce any arrests.
Among the couple’s several estates, their best-known mansion is the $26 million Pacific Palisades residence in Los Angeles. Featured in an Architectural Digest cover story, the three-story, four bedroom and five bathroom property overlooks the ocean and was originally built in 1996. Following a significant remodeling update in 2006, it now includes a cliffside swimming pool and deck area, a wine cellar, and a tree-lined motor court.
This incident follows a similar burglary at the home of Modern Family star Sarah Hyland, which was also reported by TMZ on July 27.
According to the article, the prowlers reportedly targeted Hanks’ estate while the actor couple was out of town, much like the break-in at Hyland’s property.
Furthermore, celebrities including Drake, JoJo Siwa, Goldie Hawn, and numerous baseball and basketball players have since reported recent robberies at their homes, per Patch.com.
