The return of Chicken Run after a 20-year hiatus led viewers to flock to the movie, which was crowned the most-watched streamer title in the UK last year by Ofcom‘s Media Nations report.
Aardman’s Dawn of the Nugget sequel starring Bella Ramsey and Thandiwe Newton drew an average audience of 7.5 million within the first 28 days of its release, according to the regulator’s annual report. The movie was met with a warm critical reception, coming more than two decades after the iconic original.
Chicken Run landed around one million more viewers than animated pic Elemental, which was in second place and was Disney+‘s only title in the top 10.
Having generated more than £1B ($1.3B) for the first time in the UK last year, Amazon Prime Video‘s sole entrant was Clarkson’s Farm, with a most-watched ep of 5.6 million. TV shows were rated via their most-watched episode rather than taking the overall series.

Above Clarkson’s Farm was Netflix doc Beckham‘s first ep and Julia Roberts pic Leave the World Behind, tied on 5.8 million.
Others to appear in the top 10 included The Night Agent, Bodies and Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, all for Netflix.
Only nine streamer titles featured in the top-100 most watched British shows when broadcasters and Sky were thrown into the mix, Ofcom said, although it pointed out that “content available on VoD services can still accumulate viewing long after its release.”
The Media Nations report showed streamer revenue to have soared by 20% last year, with commercial nets falling in the other direction.
