The Scream franchise is going back to its roots with Scream VII, and that is how they were able to secure Neve Campbell‘s return.
Campbell’s Sidney will face Ghostface again in the seventh installment of the slasher saga.
“We are going to follow Sidney,” Campbell told Entertainment Tonight. “They did pitch the concept to me, and it’s the reason that I jumped on board.”
The Party of Five alum said that she had not received the final script for the new film but was hoping to receive it soon.

“I love these movies, they are so much fun to be a part of, I’m so grateful for them, I could never have imagined being a part of a movie that would have lasted this many decades,” she said.
Scream VII is set to be directed by Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter for 1996’s Scream and its 1997 sequel Scream 2. Williamson returned to write the script for Scream 4 and was credited as producer for Scream 3.
Campbell appeared in the first five installments of the Scream franchise before walking away from Scream VI over feeling undervalued.
“I did not feel that what I was being offered equated to the value that I bring to this franchise, and have brought to this franchise, for 25 years,” Campbell told People in 2022.
In an interview from September 2023, Williamson championed Campbell’s return to the franchise, saying that she should get paid what she wanted.
Producers were trying to move away from Campbell, but in November 2023, they fired new lead star Melissa Barrera over social media posts that were perceived as antisemitic. Shortly after, Barrera’s co-star Jenna Ortega dropped out of Scream VII and left the franchise in limbo.
Currently, Campbell is the only star confirmed for Scream VII as the franchise starts a new era.
