After trading away star wide receiver Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers, the Pittsburgh Steelers were expected to add to their wide receiver room. While the team did draft rookie wide-out Roman Wilson in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Pittsburgh hasn’t made the splash many were hoping for.
The team has been linked with some of the disgruntled wide receivers around the NFL, such as Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers or Tyler Lockett of the Seattle Seahawks but so far, nothing has come to fruition. The Steelers addressed many needs of theirs this offseason but still have some room to work with along the receiver position.

Pittsburgh general manager Omar Khan weighed in on the idea of the team trading for a receiver at this point. He offered a candid response when discussing the matter and didn’t mince his words.
“There’s nothing going on right now,” Khan said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I guess I’ll just say if there’s an opportunity to have a discussion on somebody that’s out there, somebody that’s cut — not necessarily traded — we’ll look at it. But I assure you our focus is on these 90 guys right now.”
Trade talks are always fluid but with the start of the regular season coming up soon, the likelihood of a big deal happening remains low. The Steelers could always pull a rabbit out of their hat before the year starts but this is likely something that gets brought back up at the trade deadline. Pittsburgh will then have a better idea of what needs they have are at.
“Obviously, you’re going to use this time to evaluate the whole roster — not just that [receiver] room,” Khan said. “We’re always going to have conversations with people. If there’s an opportunity to evaluate a situation or player that’s out there, that’s what we’ll do. We’ll think about it. If it makes sense, we’ll pursue it. If not, then we won’t.”
The Steelers will probably be an active team at the deadline, especially if they get off to a good start this season. With new quarterbacks Justin Fields and Russell Wilson in the building, Pittsburgh will be looking to get themselves back to the postseason for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
