Wynonna Earp’s coming home. After whetting our appetite with a 15-second teaser earlier this week, Tubi released the full Wynonna Earp: Vengeance trailer during Saturday’s San Diego Comic-Con panel.
After three years without Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) on our screens, it feels so good to see our favorite whiskey-drinking revenant hunter back in Purgatory. And of course, she isn’t coming back alone. Wynonna Earp: Vengeance will also see the return of Tim Rozon (and his mustache) as Doc Holliday, Dom Provost-Chalkley as Waverly, Katherine Barrell as Nicole, Greg Lawson as Nedley, and Varun Saranga as Jeremy.
While Earpers would happily watch 90-minutes of these characters just hanging out at the homestead or knocking back shots at Shorty’s, the gang will have some serious work to do when they reunite. Once again, there’s a powerful villainess terrorizing Purgatory and determined to get revenge on Wynonna and those she loves — in fact, as the trailer shows, the demon bringing everyone back together is making this feel “personal.” The Tubi special’s logline describes this new evil as Wynonna’s “greatest foe yet,” which really says a lot given everything she’s faced before. (I would argue that Bobo Del Rey is Wynonna’s greatest foe, but that’s a different type of greatness.)
When we last saw these beloved characters, they had all reached major turning points in their lives: Waverly and Nicole had just gotten married, Jeremy was the new deputy director of Black Badge, and Wynonna and Doc left the Triangle to see the world — including pit stops to see the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and their daughter Alice. It’ll be interesting to see how much has changed in the years since the Syfy series’ finale, but one thing we know will never will is the love between this dysfunctional chosen family. Oh, and Wynonna’s love of donuts. We can’t see that changing anytime soon, either.
Wynonna Earp: Vengeance is set to debut on the free streaming service this fall.
