The Apple TV+ Emmy Award-winning series The Morning Show has added Emmy and Tony Award-nominee William Jackson Harper (Love Life, The Good Place) to its growing Season 4 cast in a major recurring role. He will play ‘Ben,’ the network’s self-assured and innovative Head of Sports.
The Morning Show explores the cutthroat world of morning news and the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning. Season 3 left the fate of UBA once again up in the air after Alex (Jennifer Aniston) manages to take down Paul Marks (Jon Hamm) by logjamming the sale of UBA to his tech company, Hyperion. But now, it appears UBA will be merging with another media company to keep the network afloat, which could spell layoffs and restructuring in Season 4.
Reese Witherspoon, Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Greta Lee and Nicole Beharie also star. Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons and Aaron Pierre will debut alongside Harper in Season 4.
The show’s third season was recently nominated for 16 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. The series also landed 10 acting nominations — the most for any drama series this year — with Aniston, Witherspoon, Beharie, Pittman, Lee, Crudup, Duplass, Hamm, Holland Taylor and Marcia Gay Harden all recognized for their performances.
Witherspoon and Aniston executive produce The Morning Show—developed by Kerry Ehrin— alongside director Mimi Leder (under a multi-year overall deal with Apple TV+) and Michael Ellenberg; Media Res is the studio alongside Hello Sunshine, a Candle Media company, and Echo Films. Charlotte Stoudt, who has a multi-year overall deal with Apple TV+ for scripted television series, serves as showrunner and EP.
Harper currently stars opposite Steve Carell in Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. Harper, who received both a Tony Award nomination and a Drama League Award nomination for his performance, portrays the character of Astrov under the direction of Lila Neugebauer. Additionally, he stars alongside Jeff Daniels and Diane Lane in the Netflix limited series A Man In Full, executive produced by David E. Kelley and Regina King.
He is perhaps best known for playing “Chidi” in the NBC comedy series The Good Place, a role which earned him his first Emmy Award nomination for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series” in 2020. Additional credits include Max’s rom-com anthology series Love Life, Barry Jenkins’ Amazon limited series The Underground Railroad and Season 2 of Amazon’s Jack Ryan.
On the big screen, Harper most recently starred in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, MGM’s Landscape With Invisible Hand, the indie rom-com We Broke Up, the Focus Features’ legal drama Dark Waters and A24’s thriller Midsommar.
Harper is repped by UTA, AC management and Jackoway.
