A TikTok user’s find while shopping at a thrift store left viewers sobbing as it reminded them to give their fur babies extra love.
As TikTok user @lexie798 was browsing through a thrift store in Florida, a black trinket on the top shelf caught her eye. She stepped closer and revealed in a July 19 clip that the object was a dog, perfect decor for any pet lover’s home. But it had more meaning than just another item for house decor.
The dog figurine held a bone in its mouth and connected to a picture frame. It was the picture that truly brought on a wave of emotions. Someone’s memory placed on a thrift store shelf for a stranger to keep.
She lifted the picture frame to reveal a dog celebrating its birthday in the photo. Wearing a party hat, the dog looked like he or she was inching closer to the birthday cake.
The caption reads: “I can’t just leave them here. My heart is in pieces.”
What makes this thrift store find extra special is that the dog in the photo looks exactly like the trinket. It is clear that whoever owned this before it ended up here loved their dog and this breed very much.
“I, unfortunately, was not lucky enough to come home with such a sentimental picture,” the TikToker told Newsweek via TikTok. “I was thinking about it the entire drive home to the point where I had to turn around to head back to the store. It wasn’t there when I got back and I really hope it’s in a great home now. I really wish I could find who purchased it.”
There is no telling how or why this thrifted object ended up there, however, it does give pet owners a reason to keep capturing pictures of their fur babies. People snap photos of their pets almost daily without thinking anything about it. But, as it turns out, those instant snapshots of memories can help remember their pets long after they have passed.
‘I’m In Shambles’
This TikToker, along with a majority of viewers, was shattered to see a snapshot of someone’s dog left alone on a shelf. The TikTok clip amassed over 3 million views, 830,000 likes and 3,827 comments as of Tuesday.
“No please don’t leave it IM IN SHAMBLES NOW,” pleaded one, while a second user suggested: “I would buy it and put it somewhere so that the dog knows that someone still remembers him.”
Some users were heartbroken to think the original owner got rid of the picture, but others offered positive ways to look at this situation: “Everyone is rushing to think someone got rid of it but what if that person died and their stuff just got donated bc clearly they loved their pet.”
Another added: “The dog is wearing a birthday hat, he was most definitely NOT forgotten.”
