This Democratic ticket is the betting favorite with Biden out of the race 

Political betting markets on Sunday pegged Vice President Kamala Harris and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro as the favorites to appear on the Democratic presidential ticket in the aftermath of President Biden’s decision to drop out of the race. 

Harris, 59, is a massive 1/9 favorite (-900) to be Democratic presidential nominee, according to wagers placed on BetOnline.ag.

The vice president has been endorsed by Biden, 81, but has not received former President Barack Obama’s stamp of approval. 

What to know about President Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race:

• President Biden announced Sunday he is dropping out of the 2024 presidential race — after weeks of prominent Democrats and donors calling on him to withdraw following his disastrous performance in the first presidential debate.
• In a letter posted on X Sunday afternoon, Biden admitted that it is in the “best interest of my party and country” for him to step down as the Democratic nominee.
• Biden wrote that he intends to serve out the remainder of his term and will address the country on his decision later this week.
• In a follow-up X post, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the suddenly open Democratic nomination. “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” the president wrote.
• Former President Donald Trump reacted to the news by labeling Biden the “worst president in the history of our country” in a call with CNN.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (15/1) has the next-best odds at getting the presidential nomination, followed by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (16/1) and former first lady Michelle Obama (16/1). 

Longshots include Shaprio (65/1), failed 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (80/1), Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (100/1) and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (100/1). 

Shapiro, 51, is the current favorite to be the VP nominee on BetOnline.ag, with 7/4 odds. 

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper has 3/1 odds, followed by Beshear at 5/1 and Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona and Buttigieg, who both hold 8/1 probabilities. 

Whitmer is a longer shot, with 16/1 odds, as is Obama, at 20/1. 

Other pols receiving VP bets include Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (25/1), Newsom (28/1), Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (40/1) and Clinton (50/1).

Biden, 81, blindsided White House staffers Sunday when he released a letter announcing that he would no longer seek re-election in 2024. 

The president argued that his decision to stand down was in “the best interest of my party and the country.”

Biden, the oldest president in American history, intends to serve out the remainder of his term in the White House.
