House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 6 “Smallfolk” ends with Rhaenrya (Emma D’Arcy) getting the stunning news that the dragon Seasmoke has a new rider. The Targaryen royal had spent time earlier in the episode trying to match her “dead” husband’s lonely dragon with none other than Ser Steffon Darklyn (Anthony Flanagan), her most loyal remaining Kingsguard who happened to have a Targaryen great-great-grandmother. That didn’t work. Instead, Seasmoke chose Addam of Hull (Clinton Liberty), the secret bastard son of Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint). Rhaenyra doesn’t know this, though. All she knows is that Seasmoke has a rider and it’s not the one she picked for him. And the new HBO preview for House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7 teases that Rhaenyra is going to confront Addam in a tense tete-a-tete.
The House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7 preview seemingly opens where the last episode ended, with Rhaenyra impulsively chasing after Seasmoke’s new rider â whom she assumes is Team Green. In fact, the teaser explicitly shows Rhaenyra asking Addam where his loyalties lie. Later in the same preview, we see Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) seemingly undergoing some sort of crisis of faith while Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) is stymied in the Riverlands. However the big theme of the House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7? New dragon riders…including a certain Prince Daeron??
What does this all mean for the penultimate episode of House of the Dragon Season 2? Lets break down the preview for HBOâs House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7â¦
Whatâs In The House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7 Preview?
The House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7 preview opens with Rhaenyra confronting Addam on a spare bit of beach. More importantly, their dragons â Syrax and Seasmoke â are also in something of a striking stalemate. Rhaenrya yells, “You stand with a dragon of House Targaryen! What do you want?” A title card reads, “On the next House of the Dragon.”
We watch from above as a woman walks alone through a forest. Alicent Hightower says, “All my life, I have endeavored to serve both my house and the realm.” A close up reveals a sad Alicent walking through greenery.” Alicent, all in white, then walks into a body of water. Back in King’s Landing, she tells someone, “And somehow, none of it matters.”
In the next shot, we see House Tully arriving at Harrenhal. Young Lord Oscar Tully (Archie Barnes) says to Daemon, “It does seem to me that you’ve made rather a mess here.” There’s a quick cut of Daemon looking at Viserys’s crown and then a crowd of people meeting by the Harrenhal heart tree. Daemon asks the new, young Lord of the Riverlands, “Whose side are you on?” We go back to the group by the heart tree. Oscar is there and the same Lady who chewed Daemon out for his Blackwood/Bracken plan says, “The old ways call for justice.” Daemon picks up his sword, Dark Sister, from a table.
At the Team Green Small Council, Lord Jasper Wylde (Paul Kennedy) drops the narrative bomb that “Prince Daeron’s dragon has taken to wing.” (Meaning that Alicent’s youngest son, raised by the Hightowers, might finally show up on the series!) Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) looks stunned by this news. There’s a close up of Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) in thought as Lord Jasper says, “The Hightower host will be unstoppable.” There’s then a shot of Aemond racing on horseback through King’s Landing.
We then see Rhaenyra back on Dragonstone with new love interest Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) and son Jace (Harry Collett). Jace says, “House Targaryen is the blood of the dragon. If any may lay claim to it, what are we then?” There’s a dimly lit shot of people arriving on a beach followed by an angry Jace storming away from a balcony, dragons flying behind him.
Title cards tell us “Only Two Episodes Left” while Rhaenyra says, “Thousands will die.” There’s an overhead shot of Dragonstone. Mysaria looks concerned. Alyn of Hull (Abubakar Salim) extends his hand to someone. Aemond stews at the Small Council. Rhaenyra continues: “With these dragons, peace will be restored.” There’s a shot of Rhaenyra standing in front of a dragon.
Then a quick montage of Team Black’s agent in the streets of King’s Landing, an armored hand tearing a symbol off a door, Aemond riding his horse somewhere, Rhaenyra looking at something, Rhaena (Phoebe Campbell) looking back at something else, and then a dragon growling and then swooping down…perhaps at Rhaena? The final title card reminds us that new episodes of House of the Dragon premiere on HBO on Sundays at 9 PM.
