The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to be the first team in NFL history to secure a threepeat championship run. However, the team needs to engage in training camp and preseason to get ready and take stock of player skills for the 2024 season.

The team will not be able to test everyone right away, as star safety Justin Reid will start training camp on the non-football injury list. Training camp began yesterday for the Chiefs and veterans, but Reid will have to be on the sideline for now.
According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, “Reid watched Sunday’s session from the sideline and the team later announced that he has been placed on the non-football injury list. Reid is dealing with a quad injury he picked up during the break between OTAs and camp and head coach Andy Reid said in a press conference that the veteran is day-to-day.”
It appears that Reid suffered a quad injury between the break when OTAs and minicamp occurred to now.
The quicker that Reid can get back on the field, the better it is going to be for the Chiefs. On top of being one of the most important members of the Chiefs secondary, he is also set to be used in the return specialist role since the NFL changed the way that kickoffs happen.
Per the new rules, the field is shortened, and the kicker being the last line of defense has become increasingly more challenging. As such, Reid will now be fielding kicks and preparing to stop would-be touchdowns from happening. Kickers may have to tackle a lot more in this new format, which is why Reid has been called on for the role.
Reid is a speedster who can stretch the field and make necessary tackles that a kicker might not be as great at.
With the new rules in place and teams having to redesign their entire kickoff strategy, Reid needs as much time to practice this new role while in training camp. Sadly, he will not be able to do so until he heals from the quad injury he sustained.
The good news is Reid might be injured right now, but he could heal up in time to engage in training camp and preseason. It’s better to be injured now than in the regular season when victories matter.
The Chiefs are angling to win their third Super Bowl in a row, and they will need Reid back on the field to ensure that happens.
