Armie Hammer is opening up about the aftermath of the sexual assault allegations from 2021 and the people who expressed their support during this time.
More than two years after the allegations, an investigation into the Call Me by Your Name actor brought no charges against him by the LA District Attorney due to “insufficient evidence.”
In a new interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Hammer shut down rumors that Robert Downey Jr. paid for his rehab.
“No, he did not. He did not pay for me to go to rehab,” The Social Network actor said.
Morgan pressed Hammer about Downey’s support for him during this time, to which Hammer said, “I don’t want to bring anyone else into my situation. There are a number of people who have been extremely helpful, and I’m incredibly grateful.”
Hammer also noted that Downey gave him advice, telling him, “‘Sit down, shut up, everything is going to be OK.’”
Morgan asked the actor if former co-stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Julia Roberts had reached out to express their support, but Hammer said no.
“I try not to think about the people who didn’t contact me. I try to focus on the people who did, who showed their support,” Hammer added.
Regarding the Call Me by Your Name director, Luca Guadagnino, Hammer said he has “been vocally supportive, which is something that I could not appreciate more. But at the same time, I’m also well aware that it is a precarious situation right now, and anyone who vocalizes support comes under fire. I understand that my situation was inflammatory, and anyone who gets too close might also light on fire.”
Hammer worked with Johnny Depp on Lone Ranger and says that they’ve “communicated a few times” on FaceTime, adding, “I didn’t bring [my situation] to him. He didn’t bring his to me. It was more of a social call — ‘How are you, good to see you, glad you’re still alive.’ That kind of thing.”
