It’s almost time for the Emmys — again.
Nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards will be announced Wednesday, just six months after the strike-delayed 2023 ceremony.
The simultaneous monthslong SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America strikes last year brought the entertainment capital to a grinding halt, resulting in fewer entries across categories this year. To be eligible for nomination for the 2024 Emmys, all entries must have been released between June 1, 2023, and May 31, 2024.
“While this year has been marked by significant challenges for our industry and its workforce, there has been an abundance of remarkable programs, extraordinary performances and impactful storytelling,” Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego said in a news release.
Many critics predict “The Bear,” which swept in the comedy categories at the January show, will be a favorite once again. Season three of the show, which follows Chef Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) as he tries to revive his family’s restaurant in Chicago, is streaming now, but season two will be contending for Emmy Awards.
FX’s “Shogun,” about 17th century feudal Japan, and Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer,” created by comedian Richard Gadd, are also considered likely contenders.
Tony Hale of “Veep” and Sheryl Lee Ralph of “Abbott Elementary” — both Emmy winners themselves — will announce the nominees live Wednesday from the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.
Viewers can stream the event live at 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT on Emmys.com or on YouTube. The awards will air live on Sept. 15.
NBC News will be updating the list of nominees as they are announced.
