Prince George and Prince Louis tasked their mother, Princess Kate, with an important mission when she attended the Wimbledon Tennis Championships on Sunday—the same day the England soccer team faced Spain in the UEFA Euros final in Germany.
Kate attended the men’s singles final with Princess Charlotte to watch as Spanish returning champion Carlos Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic, the winner of a record 24 grand slam titles, on Wimbledon’s famous Centre Court.
Prince George accompanied his father, Prince William, to Germany to watch the Euros match, while Louis, the youngest, stayed at home. The brothers did, however, have a soccer-related question for Alcaraz that they had tasked their mother with asking.
In video footage uploaded to social media by the BBC, Kate was filmed asking Alcaraz his thoughts on Spain’s soccer players.
“The boys want to know who your favorite footballer is?” she asked the player in a post-match meeting with Charlotte.
“Erm [Álvaro] Morata for me,” he responded in reference to AC Milan’s forward player who was also captain of the Spanish national soccer team for the Euros tournament.
“Ok, we’re gonna have to watch out for Morata,” Kate joked with Charlotte.
“Lamine Yamal is always good as well,” Alcaraz said, as Kate offered some words of encouragement before the soccer game later that night.
“You’ve [Spain] played so well so far, so best of luck,” she said. “And enjoy your win!”
Cameras covering the soccer game in Germany captured William and George’s reactions throughout the tense final game, which England ultimately lost 2-1 to Spain.
After the event, the prince authored a personal social media message to the England team reading: “”This time it just wasn’t meant to be. We’re all still so proud of you. Onwards @England. W.”
On Monday, this was followed by a second message from both William and Kate, released to social media with a photograph of Louis and Princess Charlotte watching the game the previous evening wearing personalized England jerseys.
“England, your teamwork, grit and determination were an inspiration to all of us, young and old,” they said. “Congratulations to Spain. W & C.”

William and Kate are both big sports fans. The prince is president of the Football Association in Britain, while Kate is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, where Wimbledon is held.
Both royals are also patrons of national rugby teams. William is patron of the Welsh Rugby Union and Kate is patron of the England Rugby Union as well as Rugby League.
