Nine years of friendship might be nine years too long for Caroline Brooks and Taleen Marie. The former besties have been at odds ever since Marie quickly forgave Caroline Stanbury for joking about her vagina in the beginning of The Real Housewives of Dubai Season 2 — and tensions between the two women have only heightened.
We all see Brooks apologize to Marie at Chanel Ayan‘s makeup launch party, but what we don’t know (until later on) is exactly what she was apologizing for. The apology wasn’t for Brooks’ hostile reaction to vagina-gate but rather for calling Marie a “beggar” at the end of their dinner at August Restaurant a couple of episodes ago. However, Marie claims to the other ladies in tonight’s episode that Brooks’ diss is news to her — and that she was completely unaware that her former friend called her a beggar.
“She’s lying,” Brooks told DECIDER ahead of the episode’s premiere. “Because I called her a beggar on my way out of the scene at August on the roof by the elevator shaft. When I was leaving, I said, ‘You’re a beggar. You begged me to be on this show.’ And that’s what she got upset about.”
Brooks said she even had a phone conversation with Marie about the incident — and while she admitted it was “not a very nice thing to call someone,” she stood by her assertion that Marie begged to get on the Bravo show.
“It was repetitive, it was over and over and over again,” Brooks said. “‘Please do whatever you can, please.’ Like, begging. She begged to be on the show. And so I was like, ‘OK doll, I’ll do it. Like, I’ll do whatever it takes.’ And I did. So I was honest. It may have been hard to hear, but I was honest.”
Brooks also told us that Marie was “almost in tears” when she found out the former would be on The Real Housewives of Dubai, which prompted the Glass House founder to include her in a handful of Season 1 scenes to help her “integrate with the group.”
“I started to invite her out as much as I can with the other girls so she could know them, meet them and greet them and start to have kind of a history with them so it made sense,” she said. “And we really worked hard — I did, that is, because she wouldn’t have come in through anybody else.”
One person who allegedly wouldn’t have introduced her to the group? Stanbury. While the two women have been buddy-buddy in recent episodes, Brooks claimed to DECIDER that Stanbury “did not want” Marie on the show.
“[Former cast member] Nina Ali and Sara Al Madani and me and Caroline Stanbury all know that’s the truth,” she said. “We have a group chat together. Stanbury did not want her on The Real Housewives of Dubai. And so when I fell out with Stanbury and Taleen started kissing her butt and Stanbury saw an opportunity, she befriended her to piss me off.”
The Real Housewives of Dubai airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
