Normal People made stars of its two young actors and now one of them has shared that she’d be keen to revisit the role some time in the future.
Daisy Edgar-Jones starred as Marianne alongside Paul Mescal as Connell in the hit coming-of-age BBC romantic drama based on the bestselling novel by Sally Rooney. She told BBC News: “I love those characters. It would be wonderful to explore them again.” She added: “If [Rooney] is up for writing a new story, who knows… Keeping it open. Always open.”
The series was released in April 2020, on BBC Three initially in the UK, and on Hulu in the US, and became one of the great TV hits of lockdown. Edgar-Jones told the BBC: “It introduced Paul and I to a lot of people and film-makers.”
Sure enough, Edgar-Jones has starred in movies Fresh and Where the Crawdads Sing and will appear alongside Glen Powell in Twisters, out this month, while Mescal – Oscar nominated for Aftersun in 2023, is set to extend his huge fanbase in Gladiator II.
Powell has enjoyed a run of hits with Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You and Hit Man, and Edgar-Jones told the BBC: “I feel like I have a habit of starring with a lot of the men of the moment.”
