Pat Sajak, who retired in June as the longtime host of Wheel of Fortune, will be back for a final run as host of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, which premieres October 7 on ABC. The news was revealed today in the network’s fall premiere dates announcement. Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, along with Press Your Luck, will air Mondays when ABC doesn’t have a Monday Night Football game. The 10 p.m. slot is still TBA.
Sajak passed off Wheel of Fortune hosting duties to Ryan Seacrest in his final episode, which aired on June 7. Seacrest will share hosting duties with longtime co-host Vanna White. Sajak has agreed to stay on as a consultant on Wheel for the next three years, said Suzanne Prete, EVP Game Shows at Sony Pictures Television.
In his final farewell on the June 7 episode, Sajak said “It’s been an incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes, night after night, year after year, decade after decade. And I always felt that the privilege came with the responsibility to keep this daily half-hour a safe place for family fun. No social issues. No politics. Nothing embarrassing, I hope. Just a game. But gradually it became more than that.”
“A place where kids learned their letters, where people from other countries honed their English skills, where families came together along with friends and neighbors, and entire generations.”
He added: “What an honor to play even a small part in all of that. Thank you for allowing me into your lives.”
