A video highlighting a husband’s unusual packing priorities for a family trip has gone viral on TikTok.
The clip was posted by @bryannnne and has received more than 1.1 million views since June 30. A message overlaid on the clip reads: “We’re leaving on a 10-day trip tomorrow. My husband came and said he had something to show me.”
The camera goes into a room where a man is seen packing several items into a suitcase. Crunchy noises are heard in the background as the camera moves closer to the suitcase, which appears to be entirely filled with packets of Doritos, Skittles and other snacks. The man later flashes a smile at the camera, making a V-shaped peace sign with each hand, before the clip ends.
A caption shared with the post simply reads: “The silence is so loud.” A later comment said that the couple packed like this in a bid to help save money on snacks abroad for their children.
Air travel continues to see strong growth in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era.
Travel is set to reach record highs this year, with global tourism spending expected to reach U.S. $2 trillion, according to a December 2023 survey by Euromonitor International, the market research firm.
Total passenger demand in April was reported to be up 11 percent, compared with April 2023, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported in May. In November 2023, globally total air traffic was reported to be at 99.1 percent of November 2019, pre-pandemic levels, per an IATA report in January.
International family travel is making a strong comeback after grinding to a halt during the pandemic. This is according to the 2023 U.S. Family Travel Survey conducted by the Family Travel Association, in partnership with the NYU School of Professional Studies, Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality, and Scotland’s Edinburgh Napier University.
The study surveyed over 3,300 parents and grandparents in the U.S. about their travel plans, behaviors and attitudes. Researchers found that 81 percent of parents in the country said they are likely to travel with their children this year.
‘So Odd’
Several TikTok users praised the husband for this packing hack, while some were simply perplexed.
Lori posted, “That’s so odd. I have never done this,” to which the original poster replied, “Neither had we.”
Anne Weber Simmons asked, “Are you going somewhere that has no food?” and Kelly Fiedler Nestin wrote: “I think they have food there.”
Jackie F commented: “When our kids were little I would pack a roller carry-on with all snacks. This way we save on buying snacks and at end of trip it’s empty and we have room for souvenirs.” The original poster replied: “Yes!! That’s exactly what he did it for!!”
Traci Phillips noted: “That’s so smart! Cheaper and you have exactly what you want!”
Ashuri3 wrote: “No lie imo [in my opinion] this is genius.”
Breanna| Part-time SAHM said, “Priorities. I like it,” and Nancyj noted: “Good job.”
