Former President Donald Trump, known for giving his political opponents nicknames, tabbed the vice president as “Laffin” Kamala Harris in a Truth Social post on Thursday, amid speculation she could replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic White House nominee.
“Also, respects to our potentially new Democrat Challenger Laffin’ Kamala Harris,” Trump wrote on the social media platform. “She did poorly in the Democrat Nominating process, starting out at Number Two, and ending up defeated and dropping out, before getting to Iowa, but that doesn’t mean she’s not a ‘highly talented’ politician!”
The comment is in reference to Harris who is well-known for her laugh, which has even been mimicked by a Harris impersonator on TikTok.
Newsweek reached out to Harris’ office and Trump’s campaign for comment.
Florida Republican Representative Matt Gaetz reposted Trump’s Truth Social post on X with the caption, “This is it. The best one ever. Full stop.”
Trump has been ramping up attacks on Harris as calls for Biden to step down as the Democratic nominee have grown louder following his rocky performance in the CNN‘s Presidential Debate.
While some Democrats have encouraged Bident to bow out after his sluggish debate, Biden and his team have said he intends to stay in the race.
In a newly released clip, Trump called Harris “bad” and “pathetic.”
Harris is still supporting Biden is the presidential race.
“Look, Joe Biden is our nominee. We beat Trump once, and we’re going to beat him again,” Harris said on CBS News on Tuesday.
This is not the first time Trump has given a nickname to a political opponent. He has called Biden “Sleepy Joe,” “Slow Joe” and “Crooked Joe.”
While running against former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, he also called her “crooked.” He referred to her as “Crazy Hillary” and “Lyin’ Hillary” as well.
During the 2016 Republican presidential primary, he attacked several people running against him. He called Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz “Lyin’ Ted” and Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio “Little Marco.” Both politicians now support Trump.
He also gave nicknames to some of his opponents in the 2024 Republican primary. He called Florida Republican governor Ron DeSantis “Ron DeSanctimonious” and former South Carolina Republican governor Nikki Haley “Birdbrain” and “Tricky Nikki.”
One of Trump’s most infamous nicknames was “Pocahontas,” referring to Democratic Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren. The name was a reference to a claim that Warren has Native American ancestry.
Trump has also given nicknames to foreign leaders, media personalities and other notable figures.
