Republican Senate candidate Sam Brown, who was endorsed by former president Donald Trump, is currently trailing Democrat Jacky Rosen in Nevada, some recent polls show.
Earlier this week, a poll conducted by Fabrizio Ward and Impact Research on behalf of AARP, found Rosen, who currently serves as a Nevada Senator, leading Brown, a retired Army Captain.
According to the poll, 47 percent of respondents in Nevada said they support Rosen, compared to 42 percent who sided with Brown. However, among voters aged 50 and above, Brown held a lead of 5 percentage points (49 percent to 44 percent) over Rosen.
Brown recently won his Republican primary race and is set to face off against Rosen, who has served as Nevada’s Senator since 2019, later this year.
Earlier this month, Brown received an endorsement from Trump, who said, “Sam Brown is a FEARLESS AMERICAN PATRIOT, a Purple Heart Recipient, who has proven he has the ‘PURE GRIT’ and COURAGE to take on our Enemies, both Foreign and Domestic.”
“Sam is now running for U.S. Senate in the Great State of Nevada, primarily because he knows that Crooked Joe Biden and the Radical Left are A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY. Our Country can no longer stand with this Corrupt and Incompetent “President” calling the shots. As your next Senator, Sam will fight tirelessly to secure our Border, end Migrant Crime, stop Inflation, grow our Economy, STRONGLY SUPPORT OUR GREAT MILITARY/VETS, protect our always under siege Second Amendment, and restore PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH…” Trump wrote in a post on TruthSocial.
Rosen previously unseated Republican Senator Dean Heller in 2018 by nearly 49,000 votes (50.4 to 45.4 percent).
Prior to winning his Republican primary race earlier this month, a spokesperson for Brown’s campaign told Newsweek that “Nevadans know Captain Brown, respect his leadership credentials, and are desperate for a way out of this American nightmare.”
“The Rosen-Biden team has ignored America’s cry for a secure border and stable economy. Senator Rosen will not be reelected on Election Day, and Captain Brown will have the more challenging job of fixing her mess,” added the spokesperson.
Another survey conducted by Emerson College Polling/The Hill earlier this month also found 50 percent of voters siding with Rosen and 38 percent siding with Brown. The poll also showed support for Rosen increasing over the past few months, as she previously led, 40 percent to 38 percent, in February.
RealClearPolitics average of recent polling for Nevada’s Senate race shows Rosen holding an average lead of 5.8 percentage points.
Newsweek reached out to the campaigns for both Rosen and Brown via email for comment.
