Oompa-loompa-doompity-dee, Taylor Swift just told us how important Hugh Grant is to she. (Very.)
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but two tweets that have emerged as the B-plot of this weekend’s Swift-a-palooza in London have delivered meaning (and existential questions) far beyond their scant character counts, no photography required. (Though, it should be said, ardently requested.)
While the world’s focus was largely on Swift up there on the stage and big screens at Wembley Stadium, a tweet from Grant, who attended the show on Saturday, and a subsequent response from Swift, has powered a second entertaining spectacle on the side-stage of our attention.

“Dear @taylorswift13 ,” Grant tweeted Sunday morning, “You have an incredible show, an amazing and v hospitable team and excellent if gigantic boyfriend (#tequilashots.). Thanks so much from one ageing London boy, wife and thrilled 8 year old #halfgirlhalfbracelet”
And on Monday, lo, Swift responded.

“As a long time Hugh Grant stan this tweet is very important to my culture,” she wrote.
Looks like Hugh Grant is as good at tweeting as he is at dancing in Love, Actually. Has there ever been a more apt description of Travis Kelce than “excellent if gigantic”? Rhetorical question, because obviously not. Also: Tell us more about these tequila shots. Did Kelce and Grant talk about Wonka and how much Grant “couldn’t have hated the whole thing more” while they threw them back? What kind of shot glasses did they use? Do they bring their own (don’t forget, Kelce gets his hair cut in a special customized cape that looks like his jersey, so not entirely out of the question), or are there Eras Tour-branded ones available in the VIP area? Does Grant’s daughter know about the whole “I have lots of children and need money” thing?
Whatever else it is, this is also a masterclass in manners: Make your thank you tweet a little funny, a lot complimentary, reference one of Swift’s songs, and overall leave them wanting a little more (again, photos of this tequila shot situation between him and Kelce, we beg of you).
As for Swift’s response, even after seeing that extremely royal selfie, were any of us shocked to hear that she’s a fan of the crown prince of rom-coms? You just know she’s watching Love, Actually as soon as the calendar page flips to December. All we need to know now is whether her non-holiday flavor is more Notting Hill or Four Weddings and a Funeral.
