A woman has described the behavior of a man she went on a date as a “deal-breaker” for misleading her about what she was eating.
Rihanna, who is known online as @thediaryofrihanna, had thought the man had encouraged her to eat a seafood delicacy that he called “Rocky Mountain oysters” on their dinner date. The content creator, who was left unconvinced by the dish’s unusual taste, took to TikTok on June 20 to consult viewers online. She got the shock of her life when she realized that what she had actually eaten were bull testicles.
“Do you think this is a red flag? Because I think it may be to me and it may even be a deal-breaker,” Rihanna, who is based in the U.S., said. “He picked the restaurant and when we got to the restaurant the conversation was going really well.
“We started looking at the menu and he got really excited because he saw ‘Rocky Mountain oysters’ on there. He said that you can never find these anywhere, that he grew up eating them and that they are really delicious.”
Rocky Mountain oysters are a unique culinary delicacy found primarily in parts of Canada and South America. In spite of their misleading name, they are not seafood, but rather the deep-fried testicles of bulls, and sometimes pigs or sheep.
Despite her date’s reassurance about the dish, Rihanna was shocked when it was eventually served to the man she had met online.
“He ordered his oysters but when they came to the table they didn’t look like anything like oysters,” Rihanna said.
The creator was then encouraged to try one, which she eventually did after sharing that she’s always up to try anything once.
“He gives me a bite and, I’m like, this doesn’t taste like seafood,” she said. “He starts laughing and he doesn’t stop laughing, and I start feeling really uncomfortable.
“I thought it was a bit of an overreaction, what do you think?” the poster added.
Rihanna called on viewers online to offer their interpretations of the bizarre exchange; the post has been viewed more than 1.4 million times. The creator’s retelling of events has sparked widespread discussion in the comments section, with some users sharing what ‘Rocky Mountain oysters’ really are.
“Girl, those are bull testicles. Not sea food. This is why he kept laughing, but he should’ve explained this to you,” one user, @mauralbu, wrote.
Another, @moon__whale, added: “Just found out what Rocky Mountain oysters are…Yeah, I’d laugh too. That is just a funny situation.”
“Honey, we ain’t eating Rocky Mountain oysters. Nope..,” a third user, @julina32878, shared.
Another, @alyssacwrites, commented: “Red flag is him not telling you what Rocky Mountain oysters were before you tried them.”
