A longtime staple of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s summer schedule, Royal Ascot is a week where the extended royal family comes together to show off their best headwear and enjoy a bit of horse racing. Nearly two years into his reign, King Charles III has become a regular fixture at the event, but this year, it’s the younger generation of royals who are taking the baton. Starting at last month’s Buckingham Palace garden parties, the relatives who support the crown but don’t serve as official working royals have become the focal point of the events as Kate Middleton recovers from a cancer diagnosis. Prince William made an appearance without his wife on Wednesday, but this week, Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall have made multiple appearances, bringing out an array of pastel outfits.
During day one of Ascot on Tuesday, Eugenie wore a mint green dress by Diane von Furstenburg, accessorizing with a bespoke Emily London Siniang hat and the diamond and emerald earrings she got as a wedding present from husband Jack Brooksbank.
On Tuesday, the royals were also joined by Lady Gabriella Kingston, returning to the event for the first time since the death of her husband, Thomas Kingston, in late February. Zara was photographed giving Gabriella a tight hug, with their pastel straw hats connecting. She was also spotted visiting with the family during the Trooping the Colour festivities on Friday, and last month the Daily Mail reported that the king invited her personally as a show of support.
Wednesday was a day for a reunion of the royal cousins. Eugenie, Zara, and William were joined by Princess Beatrice and Zara’s brother Peter Phillips. Though Kate stayed at home, William attended alongside his in-laws Michael and Carole Middleton. Eugenie and Brooksbank arrived in the third carriage with Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and the sisters wore coordinating pink outfits.
