Jon Stewart ridiculed Joe Biden‘s campaign trail efforts ahead of the debate on June 27, joking “there is plenty of fodder for the attacks.”
During Monday night’s episode of The Daily Show, the comedian poked fun at Biden for his habit of “seemingly staring at what can only be considered ghosts or out-of-frame paratroopers.”
The comment was accompanied by a clip of the President’s recent at the G7 summit last week, in which the 81-year-old appeared to wander away from his fellow world leaders during a photo op and was guided back by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
“And then, when he’s pulled back into frame, somehow giving the impression someone has quantum-leaped into his body,” Stewart continued, referencing the 1980s science fiction show where a time traveler temporarily inhabited the bodies of other people.
Stewart then went on to mock Biden’s facial expression as he squints at the sun and puts on a pair of sunglasses, saying “No, don’t look directly into the sun, sir.”
Stewart then moved onto Trump, who he accused of “tripping over his own d*** any time he tries to capitalize on Biden’s age.”
The 61-year-old cut to a snippet of Trump at the Turning Point USA convention this weekend. Dubbing the event “the Herbalife of political conventions,” Stewart said the Republican politician “articulated his case for having best brainful neurons smart.”
In the footage, Trump accused Biden of having “no plan” and not knowing “what the word inflation means.”
“Oh no you didn’t,” Stewart joked back in the studio. “You tell ’em, Donnie T.”
“The case he’s making to the American public is that he’s the sharpest tool in the shed,” the host continued. “See if you can find the flaw in his argument, just one sentence later.”
The clip of Trump’s speech continued, with the former president suggesting his Democratic rival should take a cognitive test.
“I think he should take a cognitive test like I did,” the 78-year-old told the audience. “I took a cognitive test and I aced it.”
“Doc Ronny—Doc Ronny Johnson—Does everyone know Doc Ronny Johnson from Texas?” Trump asked the crowd. “The congressman from Texas?”
“Acing that cognitive test is a great point,” Stewart said back in the studio. “If only his doctor was actually named Ronny Johnson, and not actually named Ronny Jackson.
“He got the guy’s name wrong on his cognitive test. I don’t even know what to say.”
Newsweek has reached out to representatives for Joe Biden and Donald Trump by contact form and email respectively.
Trump and Biden are the presumptive Republican and Democratic candidates in the 2024 general election, after winning enough delegate votes in the presidential primaries.
Stewart returned to The Daily Show in February after a nine-year hiatus to cover the run-up to the election in November. However, some viewers have accused the Emmy winner of being a “bothsidest fraud” for ridiculing both likely candidates. This includes Trump’s estranged niece Mary Trump, who called the comedian a “danger to democracy.”
