With just over a month to go until the theatrical debut of Deadpool & Wolverine, director Shawn Levy is already dreaming up future collaborations for the Merc with a Mouth. In a new interview with Total Film, Levy suggested that if he has the chance to direct Deadpool 4, he’ll be pushing for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to play a major role in the movie.
“The thing about Deadpool,” said Shawn Levy, “is I think he makes everything more interesting because of his audacity. But, boy, I’d sure love to see Deadpool and Spidey. That’s a movie I’d love to make. I feel like Tom Holland would run circles around everyone else.”
We don’t know what the future of Deadpool looks like, but Levy may well get the opportunity to direct Ryan Reynolds again in the near future if he opts to helm Avengers 5. Levy is reportedly Marvel’s top choice to direct the next Avengers movie, and while we don’t know how the studio plans to adjust the story following Jonathan Majors’ arrest and subsequent firing, it’s likely that Reynolds and Holland will be two of the movie’s headlining stars.
That said, Levy’s involvement in Avengers 5 is still nothing more than a rumor for now. He has an incredibly busy schedule, and adding another, even bigger Marvel movie to his docket might not be doable. And yet, it’s clear that Levy is a big fan of the Deadpool character (and Reynolds, who he previously worked with on Free Guy and The Adam Project). One way or another, these two seem likely to team up again soon.

Of course, Spider-Man isn’t the only MCU character that would be fun to pair up with Deadpool. Wendy Jacobson, co-executive producer on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, wants to see Deadpool face off against Jameela Jamil’s villainous Tatiana.
“She’s such a heightened, hilarious character and also an actor who can improv and is razor-sharp and can banter,” Jacobson said. “I can’t imagine being an actor, period, but I can’t imagine having to work opposite someone like Ryan Reynolds, who is just so quick and so smart and so funny all the time – but that woman could handle it.”
Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26, 2024.
