Seven states are currently affected by a wide-ranging sandwich recall due to concerns the products could be contaminated with a bacteria that can cause food poisoning.
A range of sandwiches produced made by Classic Delight LLC were subject to a voluntary company recall following the discovery of Listeria monocytogenes during sample testing, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on June 11. The affected items were distributed in Arkansas, California, Maryland, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas.
Listeria is one of the most common causes of food poisoning in the U.S., and while it often only causes uncomfortable but manageable symptoms for otherwise healthy adults, it can be particularly dangerous for young children, the elderly, pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems. Symptoms can include a high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

According to the FDA announcement, the recalled products were produced between May 11, 2023 and June 6, 2024. Newsweek reached out for comment to Classic Delight LLC via email on Tuesday night.
“The recall was initiated after environmental samples tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes,” the FDA release explains. “The production of these products has been suspended while the FDA and the company continue to investigate the source of the problem.”
Despite the detection of the organism that causes Listeria in a sample of the products, there have been no reports of illness or adverse reactions reported so far. If you have felt ill after consuming one of the affected products, the FDA advises contacting your health care provider for assistance.
Anyone who is concerned about the product or the recall should contact the Classic Delight Consumer Hotline at (419)-300-3202, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pacific Time or via email at [email protected]. Newsweek has contacted Classic Delight LLC for comment via email outside of normal working hours.
There have been several FDA recalls linked to Listeria outbreaks across the U.S. in recent weeks. A range of potato bakes were recalled in May due to potential contamination, and five states were warned over Listeria being present in some nut products.
