Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have upped their personal security after some scary incidents.
During an appearance on the Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast published Wednesday, Hawn told host Kelly Ripa about the experience of having two attempted home invasions at the couple’s Los Angeles house in quick succession, leading the actor to now be “never without a guard.”
Hawn shared the story of leaving with Russell for dinner for “maybe two hours and twenty minutes or something” and then coming home and watching a bit of Mutiny on the Bounty before deciding to head upstairs for bed, where she discovered that the couple’s home had been burglarized.
“I went up the stairs or whatever and I walked into my closet and I just lost it,” Hawn said. “They had broken in from the balcony to our bedroom, our closets.”
“They completely knocked down my door, which is a safe door, so they’re very, very sophisticated, and they got a lot of my goodies, if you know what I mean,” she continued.
After that incident, she and Russell had the attitude of “I guess that’s it, the odds are that’s not gonna happen again,” she said, but four months later, Hawn recalled, she was alone in the house when “I hear this big thump upstairs—and I was alone; Kurt wasn’t there—and I went, ‘What the hell was that?’”
“It was just like, was that a sonic boom? Did somebody jump somewhere?” Hawn apparently didn’t go up to investigate, which is a good thing, as she revealed, “as it turned out, the next day, we discovered that they were trying to get in my bedroom while I was in the house.”
After the “terrifying” incident, Hawn said she always “had a guard” with her now, “especially when I’m alone.” She said that two of her kids, Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson, live close by—”I can walk to Kate’s house, we’re really close”—but that the added security is a comfort to the couple.
“I’m never without a guard,” she said. “We have a nice relationship with our guard and you feel good.”
