Father’s Day is coming up on June 16 this year, but you still have plenty of time to run out and grab your dad a gift. Sure, you could get him the usual fare like a tie, golf gear, or a beer brewing kit, but what if you also made him a card that included a tear-jerking Father’s Day poem?
It’s admittedly tough to figure out what to write in a Father’s Day card, especially if you don’t spill your feelings to each other regularly. (Dads are the kings of sending one-word texts, after all.) On the flip side, you might not even know where to start when expressing your thanks for the decades of love, life lessons — and ridiculous dad jokes.
A Father’s Day poem could be a meaningful way to capture your love and gratitude, but since not everyone’s gifted with Shakespearean talent, it’s more than OK to borrow a haiku or two from the internet.
If you can’t find the right words, try using one of these sentimental poems for dads in your card. From the nostalgic to the lighthearted, these cute Father’s Day poems will say it all for you.
1. “Dad” — Karen K. Boyer
“He never looks for praises / He’s never one to boast / He just goes on quietly working / For those he loves the most / His dreams are seldom spoken / His wants are very few / And most of the time his worries / Will go unspoken too / He’s there, a firm foundation / Through all our storms of life / A sturdy hand to hold to, in times of stress and strife / A true friend we can turn to, when times are good or bad / One of our greatest blessings / The man that we call Dad.”
2. “In Her Eyes”— Michelle W. Emerson
“The depth of a father’s love shows in his daughter’s eyes / What’s known is what’s shown from sunset to sunrise / A foundation built on more than just what is spoken / It’s commitments kept and promises that go unbroken / An emotion so immense that nothing in this world can erase / The permanent impression of love is tattooed upon her face / A relation so peculiar that only the two can understand / Yet so immaculate it’s obvious that, by God, it was planned.”
3. “The Luckiest Dad” — Corey Mitcherson
“You’re the luckiest dad, that’s what they say ; With me as your child, each and every day / I may be a handful, a little wild and crazy / But you love me just the same, even when I’m lazy / So here’s to you, dad, on this special day / The luckiest dad in every possible way!”
