In the days since Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 class E felonies, the ex-president and his allies on the right have urged people to respect the rule of law and accept that when you commit a crime, you should expect to be held accountable. Just f–king with you! Instead, the former guy has of course claimed he’s a “political prisoner” and a victim of an unfair Democratic plot who must be avenged. And lucky for Trump, his supporters have made it clear that they’re all too happy to do exactly that.
On Tuesday, for example, House Speaker Mike Johnson laid out a “three-pronged approach” for how the GOP should, per The Washington Post, “target the Justice Department, New York, and other jurisdictions for investigating Trump—vowing to use House oversight powers while cutting funds in the government appropriations process and taking other unspecified legislative measures.” Over the weekend, Johnson previewed what some of the party’s actions will specifically involve, telling Fox News that the purpose of a recently announced June 13 hearing is to “investigate what these prosecutors are doing at the state and federal level to use politics, you know, political retribution in the court system, to go after political opponents, federal officials like Donald Trump.” Johnson added: “And we’re going to look at Special Counsel Jack Smith.“
Meanwhile, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has threatened to file a resolution, before the week is over, to impeach Joe Biden, which the House Speaker did not shoot down when asked about it:

Elsewhere, a group of 11 Republican senators led by Mike Lee have pledged to basically grind the government to a halt by, per the Post, “slow[ing] down Senate business by voting against all of Biden’s judicial and political nominees and refusing to speed up consideration of any ‘Democrat legislation.’”
And if you thought that sounded ridiculous, wait until you hear about the revenge fantasies they have for the prosecutor who made Trump a convicted felon. Per Axios:
If former President Trump wins in November, top supporters will push him to investigate, prosecute—and even try to imprison—Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg (D), who won Trump’s conviction in the hush money case. “Of course [Bragg] should be—and will be—jailed,” Steve Bannon, one of the top voices of the MAGA movement, told us—saying for the record what many Trump supporters are privately plotting.
Bannon told us Bragg could be targeted using the 14th Amendment (equal protection) and Fourth Amendment (outlawing unreasonable searches and seizures by the government) “plus scores of other” laws.
Bannon—who is set to go on trial himself versus the Manhattan DA in September—also told Axios he wants “investigations to include [Democrats’] media allies.” And the former adviser to Trump isn’t the only one vowing to go after Bragg. On Monday, House Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan told Fox New he is working on an appropriations package that would “defund the lawfare activities” of state and federal prosecutors heading up “politically sensitive investigations,” including Bragg, Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis, and special counsel Jack Smith.
