An exhaustingly busy week of price hikes continued on Tuesday afternoon as Twitch announced higher subscription and gift prices for over 30 regions starting next month, including the US. This is the first time Twitch has ever adjusted Tier 1 subscription prices in the US, as prices are being raised from $4.99 to $5.99 a month on July 11.
“As part of our efforts to help creators build and grow their communities worldwide, the following countries received subscription price adjustments as a part of Local Subscription Pricing,” Twitch explained in an article on its help site.
If there’s a silver lining to this price hike compared to the countless others we’ve seen in recent months, it’s that actual creators should benefit from it. One user on Twitter asked if creators will receive a share of the increased revenue, and Twitch ensured that they would.
“Streamers will continue earning according to their revenue share (50-70% depending on their current Plus Program tier),” Twitch Support responded on X/Twitter. “Streamers will make more money per subscription with this price increase.”

At least some of that extra money is going directly to the creators you want to support.
We hope that the additional revenue Twitch receives will be used to rebuild the Safety Advisory Council. Last month, Twitch reportedly terminated the contracts of all existing council members and replaced them with Twitch Ambassadors (via CNBC).
Considering how much abuse large platforms like these contend with, it should be a priority for the company to have employees keeping streamers and viewers safe.
