During a Thursday outing in Sussex, Queen Camilla shared an update on the health of King Charles III—and finished it off with a show of her trademark wit. While speaking to guests at a garden party, she mentioned that her husband is “getting better,” according to Hello! “Well, he would be if he behaved himself,” she joked.
When the king first announced his cancer diagnosis in early February, the palace said that he planned to take time off from public duties while he underwent outpatient treatment. But he still conducted a busy schedule of meetings and even appeared in a video for the palace. Sources close to the king told Vanity Fair that he was feeling frustrated that his treatments were keeping him out of public life. Ever since late April, he has been back to carrying out public engagements and on Thursday night, he got onstage at the Royal Opera House after a performance celebrating its longest-serving music director, Antonio Pappano.

Camilla’s Thursday visit to Sussex included a trip to Lamb House in Rye, where she saw actors Timothy West and Hayley Mills read from the 1931 novel Mapp and Lucia by E.F. Benson. During a question and answer session, the queen responded to a question about the literary setting she most wanted to attend by showing off a deep knowledge of Harry Potter.
“I would want to go to Hogwarts,” she said. “I would like to go to Hogwarts, sit in that wonderful hall, and wait for the hat to come round and pick a house. I think I might look at Dumbledore, Hagrid, and Snape and see all the pictures going mad—people jumping out of the pictures—and seeing the food flying about. That is a place I would really like to go to.”
Her day in Sussex also included a visit to Rye’s Parish Church of St. Mary, where she met a group of volunteers who run a lunch club supported by the Royal Voluntary Service. Camilla became the president of the charity in 2012, but she became its patron after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
