Back in Action has finally scored a release date. Netflix revealed on Wednesday that the spy comedy starring Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz will finally hit the streamer on Nov. 15, per TheWrap.
Production on the film was shrouded in controversy, including Foxx reportedly being the victim of a $35,000 scam led by a set staffer in March 2023, prior to news breaking of him being hospitalized the following month.
Fortunately, Foxx has since recovered from his months-long health scare, and even received a standing ovation at the Vanguard Awards in December, where he made his surprise first public appearance since his recovery.
As for Diaz, the film marks her return to cinema for the first time in a decade. Following reports that she and Foxx had fought on set and a June 2023 report that she had “not spoken to Jamie Foxx at all” since his April hospitalization, she shot down rumors of her co-star having a meltdown on set during an appearance on Molly Sims‘ Lipstick on the Rim podcast in December. She praised Foxx as “the cheerleader for the entire crew” and ” just a professional on every level.”
“I really hate all of the things that were being said about our set at the time,” she explained at the time. “You just want to scream at the top of your lungs, like, ‘What are you talking about?’”
Prior to Wednesday’s announcement, fans caught a sneak peek at the action in the streamer’s sizzle reel in February. The streamer teased the following synopsis:
“Years after giving up life as CIA spies to start a family, Emily [Diaz] and Matt [Foxx] find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown.”
The cast also features the talents of Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, McKenna Roberts, and Rylan Jackson.
Back In Action will begin streaming on Netflix on Nov. 15.
