Popular apps Petey and macGPT have been updated this week with OpenAI’s GPT-4o. Petey was developed by Hidde van der Ploeg and macGPTwas developed by Jordi Bruin. Here’s what you need to know about both app updates.
Petey is a GPT app for Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro. In version 2.5.12, the software just received the newly unveiled GPT-4o model by OpenA, which is available for Premium subscribers.
MacGPT 3.2.1 also supports the new model, and Bruin recommends users switch to it, as it offers a better experience while helping save costs. Users just need to open MacGPT, and, in the menubar, click on MacGPT > Check for updates.
While GPT-4 Turbo was a groundbreaking update and helped improve these third-party clients, the new GPT-4o is two times faster, 50% cheaper, and offers five times higher rate limits.

One of the big improvements with the ChatGPT GPT-4o update is real-time conversational responses. GPT will respond in even more human ways now, making it much easier to interact with the chatbot. You can even interrupt the chatbot, which means you won’t have to wait for it to finish a statement before changing how you want it to act.
ChatGPT’s GPT4-o update also allows you to change the emotion the chatbot responds to with voice, giving you more customization over the way that it responds to your queries. OpenAI says the new model was trained across audio, vision, and text to provide a much faster response time than GPT-3.5 and GPT-4. With support from up to 50 different languages, the new voice model will start rolling out for testing in the coming weeks.
In addition, OpenAI announced GPT-4o is available with limited usage rates for ChatGPT free users, a huge improvement over past models like GPT-4, which was only available to those who subscribed to ChatGPT Plus.
If you are a Petey or MacGPT user, you should update these apps to take advantage of OpenAI’s latest announcements. Petey is free to download but requires an in-app subscription, depending on your GPT needs. You can download macGPT on the Mac for free – but we recommend you leave a tip for Bruin.
BGR will keep reporting on the latest apps using OpenAI features. You can recap all the features introduced by OpenAi below.
