EXCLUSIVE: Ryan Phillippe (Shooter) and Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) are leading thriller The Patient, which is launching in the Cannes market with International Film Trust.
Kelly Greyson (Fortress) and David Cade (Lansky) also star in the under-the-radar project, which wrapped principal photography earlier this year in Alabama. Mukunda Michael Dewil (The Immaculate Room) is directing from his own script.
The logline reads: “When The Patient (Phillippe) wakes up in a hospital without any recollection of what happened to him, he is issued a life he doesn’t remember by the inscrutable Dr. Rose (Beckinsale). But soon he comes to suspect that he’s being manipulated in order to protect a powerful politician implicated in a murder.” Above is a first look image from the project.
Producers are Robert Ogden Barnum of The Barnum Picture Company and Benaroya Pictures CEO and International Film Trust Founder, Michael Benaroya. Barnum and Benaroya previously worked together on Margin Call and Lawless. The producing team is rounded out by Raja Collins (American Sicario).
IFT and Benaroya Pictures are financing alongside Dream Capture Films, BondIt Media Capital and Buffalo 8 Post-Production, and Three Point Capital. BondIt CEO Matthew Helderman, COO Luke Taylor, and VP, Finance Tyler Gould are executive-producing. Michael Sirow and Eric Brenner also serve as EPs.
Benaroya’s sales agency, International Film Trust (IFT), is representing worldwide rights and Sales President, Christian de Gallegos, is on the ground in Cannes to screen a promo for distributors.
Beckinsale is coming off Amazon and ITV limited series The Widow, Paramount+ limited series Guilty Party and Catherine Hardwicke’s film Prisoner’s Daughter. Phillippe last year starred in action film The Locksmith and is in production on Amazon series Motorheads.
“The Patient is my third time getting to join forces with Ryan and Mukunda,” Robert Ogden Barnum said, “and just as on our previous two films, it’s been a fantastic experience. Mukunda’s stellar script speaks for itself and adding Kate into the mix is the cherry on top.”
“With its twisted thriller ride and outstanding cast, The Patient is exactly the type of project for which we’re always on the lookout,” Benaroya Pictures CEO and IFT Founder Michael Benaroya added. “Ryan and Kate are terrific actors that resonate with distributors worldwide.”
Phillippe is repped by David Schiff at MGMT. Entertainment. Beckinsale is repped by Gersh and Untitled.
