Saturday Night Live skipped its traditional cold open and instead went with brief bits featuring cast members and their moms, in honor of Mother’s Day.
“As you know, it is Mother’s Day in about 29 minutes,” said Kenan Thompson.
“So still plenty of time to buy a gift,” said his mother, Ann.
“I told you mom, my children are my gift to you,” he responded.
“So me babysitting them is my gift. How generous,” she said, with a bit of sarcasm.
Then, Thompson explained that “with so many upsetting stories in the world right now, we thought we would take a break from a regular cold open and hear some heartwarming stories from our moms instead.”
Then his mom responded, “Really? That is too bad. I was excited to see who was going to play Stormy Daniels.”
The opener was unique for the show — funny and heartwarming at the same time — with highlights feature Mikey Day’s mom telling her son, “You’ve already given me the greatest gift of all: that Beavis and Butthead sketch.”
Colin Jost appeared with his mom with matching blonde haircuts, complaining that their segment was being cut out for the sake of time. “Wait a minute, if I don’t have a line, I don’t get paid,” his mom said.
“How do you think I feel?” Jost said. “I spent days growing this out.”
