A special to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live is planned for February on NBC.
The network is planning a celebratory weekend that culminates with a live primetime special on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025 from 8-11 p.m. ET.
Another new special planned for the 2024-15 season is Defying Gravity: The Curtain Rises on Wicked, a special behind-the-scenes celebration of Universal Pictures’ upcoming feature film, led by Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and the all-star cast of Wicked. It will air on Nov. 25.
As for the rest of NBC’s planned specials, the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards will once again air live from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville on Thursday, Sept. 26 across NBC and Peacock. NBC will also return for to the Opry for Little Big Town’s Christmas at the Opry, a two-hour music special from Nashville.
Returning specials include Christmas in Rockefeller Center with host Kelly Clarkson, The National Dog Show and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade — the latter of which averaged a record-setting 40 million viewers and was the No. 1 entertainment telecast of 2023.
NBC will also return to Miami for a New Year’s Eve celebration.
