Image Nation Abu Dhabi and Roy Lee and Steven Schneider’s genre label Spooky Pictures have set the third feature under their multi-picture slate deal with sci-fi horror Menace. Directed by Randall Okita (See For Me), the film stars Isabel May (1883) who also serves as an executive producer via her banner Una Vaca Productions.
AGC International will launch sales at the Cannes Market and show off first footage from the movie which recently wrapped production in Canada. Cinetic Media is handling North American rights.
May stars as a research student who has a psychotic breakdown and is remanded to the custody of her aunt and uncle in a small town. When strange things start happening around her and people start disappearing, she isn’t sure what is real or what is her imagination.
May was most recently seen in 1883 for Paramount+ and the Apple TV series, Masters of the Air. She also stars opposite Jenny Slate and Charlie Day in Amazon’s rom-com I Want You Back.
Menace follows the success of Image Nation and Spooky Pictures’ first two productions – Watcher and the micro-budget Late Night with the Devil, which became IFC Films’ highest-grossing opening weekend ever, approaching $10M at the U.S. box office.
Menace is written by Thom Eberhardt (Night of the Comet) and is produced by Spooky’s Lee (Barbarian) and Schneider (Insidious) and Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy (Late Night with the Devil), with Daniel Ostroff (The Missing), William Woods (The Kid Detective) and Maddy Falle (DADA). Additional executive producers include Ben Ross, Rami Yasin, Tom Spriggs and AGC’s Stuart Ford.
Ross, Acting CEO of Image Nation, said, “Menace marks the continuation of Image Nation’s journey into the international market and expanding slate of dark genre films… We can’t wait for audiences to see this script come to life with Isabel May leading the cast for another Image Nation/Spooky Pictures edge of your seat thriller.”
Schneider added, “Our co-production partnership with Image Nation continues to go from strength to strength. We are thrilled to announce our third project, especially with a fantastic talent like Isabel May in our lead role. We look forward to seeing what success Menace and our continued partnership brings.”
Okita is repped by Paradigm and Principal Entertainment. May is repped by CAA, Principal Entertainment and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson McGinnis Ryan.
