Tom Brady was the subject of a comedy roast for the Netflix is a Joke Festival, which is taking place in Los Angeles from May 2-12. The roast took place at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, and was streamed live on Netflix on May 5. It is also now available to stream on the streaming app.
The aptly titled “Greatest Roast of All Time” featured Brady being roasted by several former NFL players like Randy Moss, Julian Edelman, and Drew Bledsoe. He also took jabs from renowned comedians like Nikki Glaser, Sam Jay, Jeff Ross, and Andrew Schulz. Kevin Hart hosted the show.
Most of the comedians on stage took to attacking the controversies surrounding Brady like the infamous “Deflategate” scandal, his divorce from ex-wife Giselle Bündchen, and the numerous allegations about his cheating with the New England Patriots.
There were a lot of jokes that attacked his legendary career, including hurling insults that included former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. Even Patriots owner Robert Kraft was there, but there was one stipulation about the jokes that Brady indicated before the event took place.
Initially, roaster and comedian Jeff Ross made a joke about when Brady was drafted by the Patriots and first met Kraft. He stated the famous Brady line, “I’m the best decision your organization has ever made,” and then ended with a joke, “Would you like a massage?”
The joke led to Brady going up to Ross and saying, “Don’t say that s*** again.” The joke was referring to an incident where Kraft was charged with first-degree misdemeanor for soliciting prostitution at a day spa in 2019. These charges were later dropped after it was revealed secret cameras were installed in the facility in question.
Brady had apparently made the jokes about Kraft and that situation off-limits, which is why he approached Ross in that manner. Schulz was part of the dais of comedians who roasted Brady, and he revealed on his “Flagrant 2 Podcast” that Brady made it clear that jokes about Kraft were not tolerated.
“I think it was real [Brady’s comment to Ross] because they told us no jokes about happy endings with Bob Kraft,” Schulz said, “because I had a Bob Kraft tag… Tom asked us not to do anything with the massage jokes, and I was like, alright, cool.”
Schulz indicated that the jokes were all supposed to be aimed at Brady and not Kraft, despite him being in attendance. The usual case is anyone attending can catch barbs from comedians, but making jokes about Kraft was off-limits. The incident with Brady telling Ross a bit forcefully that he shouldn’t say anything else about Kraft was real. Regardless of the off-limits topic, the roast still went very well and has remained at the top of Netflix charts since its debut.
