John Oliver was back on Last Week Tonight after taking a week off and dinged Fox News over their coverage of college students protesting the war in Gaza.
Oliver highlighted the coverage the student protests have been getting on cable news networks and highlighted a particular moment on Fox News as they reported from Columbia University.
In the clip, the Fox News reporter asks a student what they thought about the NYPD moving in on the protestors.
“It’s insane. We have a right to protest,” the student said. “Look at that, it’s f***ing crazy.”
Oliver zeroed in on the reporter asking the student what they were going to do when the police started arresting them.
“What am I going to do? I can’t really do much,” the student said.
The reporter then followed up, asking, “Are you going to go with the police if they make arrests?”
“I guess so,” the student said.
Oliver said, “Kudos to that student for giving the calmest possible answer to what might be the dumbest question ever asked on TV.”
The HBO late-night show host then mocked the Fox News reporter, asking a hypothetical, “If the guys with guns put you in handcuffs and drag you to the jail, will you go with them?”
Oliver then mocked Fox News viewers sending “thoughts and prayers to the loved ones of the one boomer who was killed by hearing that student say f*** on Fox News.”
The comedian then read the potential obituary that the family would write in their honor, “Paul John Roberts passed away in his home when his eyeballs, heart, and butthole exploded at the same time. He is survived by his wife and three adult children who no longer speak to him.”
