EXCLUSIVE: More theatrical product for 2024 as Amazon MGM Studio’s Orion Pictures is dating the feature take of Colon Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, Nickel Boys, for Oct. 25. It’s a limited theatrical release on a date that also includes Sony’s Venom: The Last Dance and Cinedigm’s Terrifier 3.
Directed and co-adapted by RaMell Ross, Nickel Boys chronicles the powerful friendship between two young African American men navigating the harrowing trials of reform school together in Florida. Ethan Herisse, Brandon Wilson, Hamish Linklater, Fred Hechinger, Daveed Diggs, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor star. Ross co-adapted with Joslyn Barnes. Plan B’s Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner produce with David Levine and Barnes. Anonymous Content and Louverture Films are also production companies.
Amazon MGM Studios‘ African American title American Fiction was a huge success at arthouses, grossing north of $21M off of its Audience Awards at TIFF. The movie saw an Adapted Screenplay Oscar win for its filmmaker Cord Jefferson as well as noms for Best Picture, Original Score, Jeffrey Wright in Best Actor, and Sterling K. Brown in Supporting Actor.
