The Death in Paradise expansion continues apace with a third season and Christmas special of spin-off Beyond Paradise coming immediately after the conclusion of Season 2.
The BBC and BritBox International‘s detective series has been a bit of a sleeper hit for the former and was one of the UK’s most popular debut dramas last year.
Beyond Paradise stars Kris Marshall as DI Humphrey Goodman who left Saint Marie, the setting of Death In Paradise, to move to his partner Martha’s (Sally Bretton) hometown of Shipton Abbott near the Devon coast. Not long after arriving, Humphrey joins the small local police force, where he quickly makes an impression on the local officers. The second series, which has just ended on the BBC, saw Humphrey and Martha very nearly tie the knot, while their fostering journey came to a heartwarming conclusion as they welcomed Ryan into their home.
“Beyond Paradise has become such a huge hit with millions of viewers across the UK,” said BBC Drama Director Lindsay Salt. “It’s a show that is absolutely on a roll, and we’re beyond pleased to bring more fiendishly clever mysteries from the Shipton Abbott team to the BBC.”
The Caribbean-set Death in Paradise is one of the BBC’s most popular dramas of this millennium and has run for 13 seasons. Another spin-off, ABC’s Return to Paradise in Australia, will launch soon and has also been acquired by the BBC. Red Planet Pictures produces Death in Paradise and Beyond, while BBC Studios Productions Australia makes Return.
Beyond Paradise has been sold to nearly 60 territories by BBC Studios.
