EXCLUSIVE: German-based TV event Seriencamp will return to Cologne in June and has a raft of key industry players signed up for its upcoming tenth edition.
Seriencamp attracts delegates from across Europe and has become a fixture in the calendar of international TV events. A first look at the 2024 line-up reveals sessions with key producers, distributors, broadcasters and platforms, as well as specific segments on artificial intelligence and TV soundtracks.
Director Oliver Hirschbiegel, Supervising Art Director Cornelia Ott and producers Daniel Hetzer and Jakob Neuhäusser will be in town to discuss their work on Apple TV+ sci-fi series Constellation. There will also be a focus on the role of music in TV drama in a ‘How Soundtracks Shape the Way We See’ session with music supervisor Catherine Grieves who has worked on Killing Eve and Extraordinary among other film and TV projects.
Industry events now routinely examine how artificial intelligence is reshaping the business and Seriencamp’s take is to focus on the practical applications of AI using real-world case studies, as well as delving into the ethical and legal questions the new technology poses.
Seriencamp decamped from Munich to Cologne for the first time in 2023. A popular and returning strand showcases German drama series in progress. The 2024 line-up includes Real Film’s Hameln for ZDFneo, Constantin’s bestseller adaptation Achtsam Morden for Netflix, and Studio Zentral’s superhero series Angmessen Angry for RTL+.
Broadcasters and streamers will also share what they have upcoming in a What’s Next piece at the event. Elsewhere, ZDF Studios, Newen Studios, StudioCanal, ORF Enterprises, Oble, Mediawan and Bavaria Media will take part in a Meet The Distributors session where they share what they are looking for in partnerships and projects.
German funding body Film und Medienstiftung NRW and regional authority the Staatskanzlei NRW support Seriencamp. ZDF Studios is also a main partner.
Markus Schäfer, President and CEO, ZDF Studios, acknowledged this year’s Seriencamp comes at a moment when the TV business faces challenges and noted the event will provide key intelligence and a place to network.
“Cooperation, co-production and co-financing between broadcasters, streamers, production companies and distributors are more important today than ever before,” Schäfer said. “This is the only way to create new and targeted opportunities to continue to develop and finance outstanding programs and make them available to international audiences.”
Seriencamp founder and Artistic Director Gerhard Maier added: “From the challenges and opportunities of technological disruption through artificial intelligence, to evolving global media landscapes that foster new collaborations and business models, and the adaptive changes in national film policies and funding— each element is designed to spark dialogue and inspire.”
